Major Weekend Events
 
Bayside Business Expo
Saturday  8.30am to 2.30pm
Wynnum Memorial Hall, cnr Bay Terrace and Cedar Street.  Come and meet
 some of the many local businesses we have in the community.  There are some great workshops and talks also being held.  More details go to http://baysidewomeninbusiness.org/expo/
Art Exhibition in Wynnum
Saturday 10am to 5pm
Sunday 10am to 2pm
Wynnum  Community Centre, Florence St, Wynnum.
Local artists are holding a free art exhibition to highlight local art work.  Drop in over the weekend.
Wynnum Seafood Festival 
Saturday 11am – 6pm
Tingal Rd, Edith Street and Bay Terrace will have some street closures.
Access to medical centres will be available during these times.

Not just a Seafood Festival.  There will be over 80 market stalls for bargain-hunters and treasure-seekers to explore selling everything from sweet treats and fresh produce to clothing, homewares and vintage finds. Timetable is attached

Petition
Last days to sign the petition calling upon the Lord Mayor to reverse the decisio n  to reduce and remove water rebates forpensioners made in the June 2016 Budget.  Closes Tuesday 25 October.

Wynnum Golf Club Upgrade
I have been advised that Wynnum Golf Club is upgrading their course.
They are putting in a new short game practice facility for members to practice and for coaching clinics to be held.
As part of the upgrade, it will be necessary for the Club to remove Pine Trees from the course. However, new native trees will be planted.
The work will take several weeks to complete.
 Bartons Bayside Charity Dinner
Bartons Bayside has come up with a great idea for an annual fundraiser to benefit local charities.
If you or your organisation can help with donations, please contact Sue.
Ticket price includes a 3 course meal, drinks, live band and auctions. Special MC Ben Davis and Guest Panel includes Paul Green, Des Hassler and a surprise guest. For bookings call Sue on 3396 7777.  Help local charities at one great night.
Tickets are  $100 for single and $900 for a table of 10.
I urge anyone who is community minded and can afford it to attend this year’s event on Friday 4 November 6.30 for 7pm at Wynnum Manly Leagues Club, Wondall Rd, Manly West.

Mercury Theatre

Mercury is proud to announce their latest production ‘Two moments with Mercury’ is about to start in November.

Community Groups
‘Know Your Marine Radio Course’ at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron 23 November.
The course will start at 7pm and will go for about 2 hours and is free to the general public. The course will cover all use of a marine radio, you will get to use one on the night, including how to make a call, when to make a mayday or Pan Pan call, the phonetic alphabet, calling channels, working channels, emergency channels, repeater channels, how to read a weather chart an a lot more.  There are no exams just a lot of relevant information.
If you wish to obtain a Marine Radio Licence then they can help there also.

Explore the photographs in the Merv Beitz Local History Collection and learn how to use them to create beautiful lanterns. Presented by local historian Kate Harbison in conjunction with Sharee Cordes from Bayside Stories. Bookings essential.
Feel Good Month: The therapeutic garden

Gardens are places where you can get healthy physically and mentally. This presentation looks at the health benefits of creating a variety of relaxing indoor and outdoor garden spaces. Presented by horticulturalist Claire Bickle. Bookings essential.
Events Attended 
Friday 14 October
I attended the official turning of the soil for the new Wynnum Health Precinct on the corner of New Lindum and Wynnum Roads, Wynnum West.  This new state of the art health centre will provide locals with a great 24hr medical service.
In the afternoon I attended the opening of the new Manly West State School’s Multi-purpose court.  Students can now play netball, basketball and tennis on this new facility which was part funded by a Council grant.
Then I went to the Uprising Youth Festival held at Brisbane Bayside State College grounds.  Around 500 teenagers attended and had a great evening of free entertainment.
Saturday 15 October
I went to the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre’s annual Spring Fair.  Lots of home baked treats and homemade craft was on sale.
I also dropped into the B ayside Sea Scouts garage sale at Darling Point.
I attended Bayside United Football Club’s AGM.  They are already planning for a big year in 2017.  The Club also holds a summer competition. For anyone interested call 3893 0177.
Sunday 16 October
In the evening I attended the church service celebrating the 10th anniversary of the formation of SAILS at Bayside. I was also pleased to see Charles Dunbar presented with his Life Membership certificate for SAILS at Bayside, congratulations.
Monday 17 October
I attended the Wynnum Manly Leagues Grants Presentations. The Club now holds a grants process for donations.  Congratulations for the work the Club does in serving our community. $50,000.00 was handed out by the Leagues Club.
Tuesday 18 October
  I attended the Bayside PCYC Breakfast of Champions at Lota.
Thursday 20 October
I enjoyed participating with local seniors at the annual SABOT’s Mock Olympics SABOT at Bandstand Park.
I attended the Wynnum State High Sports Awards presentation at the school.   Well done to all those who won an award.

Anniversary Year at 2pm.  The venue is The Wynnum Municipal Hall, Cnr Bay Terrace and Cedar Streets,  Wynnum. The Concert is supporting  Red Cross, Wynnum Manly Branch, and they will also be providing the afternoon tea which is included in the price of the tickets, $20.00 and $15.00 concession, children under 12 $5.00.
