Wynnum Manly Community Newsletter 10 July 2014

New Staff in My Office

This week has seen a ‘changing of the guard.’  Diane has retired.  After 14 years working in my office she has decided to stop working and enjoy life!  My new staff member Jennifer has joined the office recently and with Kerry they will help you with any questions or concerns in my Ward Office. Diane has served the Wynnum Manly Ward community and I well with her dedication. I wish her and her family a happy and healthy retirement.

Courier Mail – Real Estate Article

It was great to see the positive write up in the Courier Mail on Saturday on development possibilities in Wynnum Central. I do whatever I can to promote the area to a wider audience and the Courier were happy to assist. Please have a read of the storey through the attached link. Go Wynnum !!!!! http://www.couriermail.com.au/realestate/news/wynnum-set-for-first-fivestorey-buildings-as-development-picks-up-on-the-bayside/story-fnihpu6h-1226976315743

I drove a couple of people from a company which builds high quality units around the Ward recently. They were very impressed by the opportunities available. Meanwhile another 5 storey apartment building has been approved at 70 Bay Terrace which is the south east corner of Bay and Charlotte Streets. The site includes the kebab shop and the old St Vincent de Paul shop. That makes it at least 5 approvals of 5 or more storeys.  We just need someone to start building!

Shops are Opening Recently I noticed a new business in the shops near Lindum Railway Station. Everything Reptile sells reptiles and their foodstuffs as well as cages . Visit the shop or www.everythingreptile.com. au for more information.  The business proprietor Simon Grainger is a licensed snake catcher. His contact number is 0417 618 609.

King Tide Due A King tide is expected this Sunday evening, 13 July 2014. In addition, higher than normal high tides are expected on the evenings of Friday, 11 July 2014 through to the early hours on Wednesday morning, 16 July 2014. If you need help with sandbags, these are available at the Council Depot in Herbert Street, Lota.

Parking Taskforce Submissions close this Friday, 11 July.  If you haven’t make a submission I encourage you to do so.  Also below is the link for a survey if you can take the time to complete, this too would be helpful.   https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/brisbaneparkingsurvey

Events Attended

On Saturday I attended the official opening of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron’s new clubhouse. The building was formerly the Port of Brisbane’s visitors Information Centre. It was located on the back and was built over Swan Lake. It was cut up and transported to Royal Queensland by barge. This was an example of recycling on a grand scale. RQYS now have a much larger dining area plus two seminar rooms and a bigger office. Well done to the RQYS and the Port of Brisbane!

On Sunday I went to the Men’s Shed’s 3rd Birthday lunch. Hopefully it won’t be their last. I still believe they can be relocated to somewhere on the old Wynnum Central School site.

Later in the afternoon I held a sausage sizzle to celebrate the opening of the new shelter sheds at the Elanora Park dog off leash area at Wynnum North. Dog owners were very positive towards the latest improvement in the largest off leash area in Brisbane.
